Built to Spill Lancaster Concert reviews
ZZ Top & Jeff Beck
At Ironstone Vineyards on Friday 8/15, a large group of us went to see Built to Spill & Jeff Beck. The general feeling in our group and around us was one of disappointment with Built to Spill when it came to their performance length. Jeff Beck, a pro, performed as good if not better than previous times we've seen him. We saw Built to Spill about two years ago at the same venue and it was one of the best concerts we had been to in a very long time. They played for almost two hours and gave it their all! Our disappointment with Built to Spill wasn't in the way they sounded...they are also pros. On Friday night, less than an hour into their performance the concert ended! The crowd coaxed them back out for an encore, which they did oblige and invited Jeff Beck out to play with them but by then most of the audience including ourselves were not going to stay around. In fairness to Built to Spill, I heard they did play for about another 20-30 mins but it was too late for us and others that filed toward the exits. BTW, it was a sold-out crowd. Never have I seen this venue so full, which was yet another surprise as to why they just didn't seem to be into playing.
In summary, my wife and I go to about 6-8 concerts a year. These bands all played close to two hours and gave it their all, keeping us wanting more before it was time for an encore. We've seen a variety of bands from Zac Brown and Alan Jackson to OAR, Dispatch and Wilco. I guess we're all human...perhaps it's just that we've been a little spoiled...
